Where is Typhoid Found?
Areas of high prevalence include The Indian subcontinent, most Southeast Asian countries and several South Pacific nations. PNG may be the highest-risk country amongst our Pacific neighbours.
Typhoid is generally regarded as “medium risk” in Africa, Central and South America, Eastern Europe, Russia and China. However, lumping all these areas together as a single-risk is not that helpful. Most people visiting Central and South America, and Africa will want to consider Typhoid risk more than a visit to Eastern Europe. The data on Typhoid prevalence Africa is very poor, and it’s reasonable to assume that there are pockets of high prevalence of Typhoid in Africa.
